HomeFed wins startup weekend Kitchener-Waterloo

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

This past weekend several of our MBET students participated in Communitech's Startup Weekend Kitchener-Waterloo, a 54-hour event  where entrepreneurs work together to create companies from scratch.

Three MBET students, Ramzi Samara, Steven Wang, and Joyce Lee, and one MBET alumnus, Vishnu Varadaraj, were part of the winning team: Homefed. HomeFed is the AirBnB for food. It matches enthusiastic local hosts with excited guests looking for a taste of something unique. Travelers can use HomeFed to find home cooks from around the world to enjoy an authentic cultural experience.

Over the course of the weekend the HomeFed team met with over 10 mentors, surveyed over 100 people for validation (50% said they would host, 75% said they would use the service), and had revenue at the end of three days.

For more details on the weekend and HomeFed's win, take a look at Communitech's News Release: Startup Weekend Kitchener-Waterloo News Release.

Congratulations!
