Five Master of Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology (MBET) students competed in the RBC Next Great Innovator Challenge in Toronto on Friday, January 17th, 2014. The team, RBC+, was awarded second place.
This is not the first time MBET students have placed in this challenge. In RBC's 2011 competition, three of our MBET teams placed first, second, and third, while in 2012, one of our MBET teams placed first.
Five teams were selected to attend the finals event based on a combination of written and video submissions. Students were required to propose an innovative idea that would enable RBC to use big data to create a competitive advantage. Finalists were announced earlier this month.
The RBC+ team included MBET students Shanae Vander Togt, Rahim Dhanani, Ali Esmail, Aleesha Babineau, and Vejey Karthick Gandier.
The team's proposed solution involved using socially responsible investments and leveraging RBC's existing brand to create competitive advantage. As the runners up, they were awarded a $5,000 prize.
