WATERLOO, Ont. (September 10, 2012) – Recipients of the E-Launch Scholarships have been selected as the University of Waterloo’s Enterprise Co-op (E Co-op) program kick starts the fall term.
With five $4,000 scholarships up for grabs, 18 students presented business ideas to an esteemed panel. The judges had a difficult challenge selecting from among the 16 businesses pitched. The winners were announced on Friday, September 7 with the judges agreeing on 5 clear winners:
Stephen Holiday, SmugData – a start-up using content-based image search to help corporations make sense of data.
Ronak Raval, QuikAsyst Inc - a company which aims to assist homeowners with product support, particularly in relation to the large and expensive assets in their home.
Jon Joel, JoLi Cosmetics – a platform to provide premium in house products for salons, make-up artists, dermatology clinics, and photographers to create and exclusive products and establish in house brands for their clients.
Jayson Rhynas and Basil Al-Dajane, LeafNotes – a new venture focused on creating the next generation of music composition tools for mobile devices, with the goal is to make music more visual and social.
Nigel Dookie, Locaus – Locaus is an early stage startup in the field of Social Networking with current emphasis on the Nightlife Industry.
Established in 2011, the E-Launch Scholarships were the result of a donation from Waterloo graduate, entrepreneur and longtime supporter of student entrepreneurship, Nigel Stokes. The awards were created specifically for students enrolled in the E Co-op program. Up to five are awarded each term.
