Register for PhD and special hooding

Supervisors of PhD graduands are invited to participate in Convocation by hooding the students that they have taught, advised, supervised and mentored throughout their years as a PhD student. PhD hooders participate in the Chancellor's Procession and sit on stage throughout the ceremony.  Hooding instructions are sent by email, and a special "Hooding 101" tutorial is held about a week prior to Convocation.

Special hooding

University of Waterloo faculty and staff and faculty of other post secondary institutions are invited to hood a student, family member, friend or colleague who is graduating with a bachelor's or master's degree. Special hooders participate in the Chancellor's Procession and sit on stage throughout the ceremony.  Hooding instructions are  sent by email, and a special "Hooding 101" tutorial is held about a week prior to Convocation.


The deadline has passed and the online form is closed. If you are a faculty member who would like to hood a graduating PhD student, please email convocation@uwaterloo.ca to make arrangements. Due to the complexities of arranging Special Hooding, we are unable to accept any additional Special Hooding requests at this time.

Gowning

Gowns for members of the Chancellor's Procession are provided by the Convocation Team. Participants who are graduates of the University of Waterloo will be provided with the appropriate UWaterloo gown and hood. Participants who are graduates of other institutions will be provided with black gowns, if they do not own their own regalia. Borrowed gowns and hoods should be returned immediately following the end of the ceremony.

Where to line up for the chancellor's procession

Chancellor procession participants will line up for the procession under the direction of the Registrar. Chancellor's procession members should arrive in the Chancellor's Robing Room (Student Life Centre, room 2134) by 9:30 a.m. (morning ceremony), 2:00 p.m. (afternoon ceremony), or 6:00 p.m. (evening ceremony).
