Over the last two weeks, we’ve shared some important updates about our operational plans as we look to expand in-person experiences for everyone this fall and beyond. We’ve shared the most important updates with you by email, but you might have missed some changes that we shared online. This email is a quick recap of the information you might have missed.

Resources for returning to campus in the fall term (all students)

Update for students 

As the fall term approaches, we look forward to welcoming more employees and students back to our campuses. We have planned for a fall term that creates an expanded in-person experience for all, while putting measures in place to protect and promote safety.

Confirming direction for fall term

Update for students and employees

Late last night, we received new instructions from the Ontario Government’s Ministry of Colleges and Universities and the Chief Medical Officer of Health that outline their direction to us for the fall term.

In particular, the government now requires that universities must implement a mandatory proof of vaccination program by September 7 and that we can relax some physical distancing measures in instructional spaces such as classrooms and labs.

Earlier this week, we strengthened our safety measures against COVID-19 by introducing the requirement to provide proof of vaccination. We promised to get you information on how to submit your proof or apply for accommodation by the end of the week. That information follows below.

Update for students and employees

  • We are strengthening our safety measures against COVID-19 
  • Anyone coming to our campuses and locations must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 
  • Proof of vaccination is mandatory with accommodations available for medical or human rights grounds

Self-declaration of vaccination required for campus access

Update for students and employees

  • Starting September 1, you will need to anonymously self-declare your vaccination status to come to campus 
  • We are supporting advocacy efforts calling for a provincial order for mandatory vaccination in the sector

Vaccination now required to live in residences

Update for undergraduate students

  • We will require students living in our residences during the 2021-2022 academic year to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19

  • We are making changes to residence requirements based on new advice we received this week from Region of Waterloo Medical Officer of Health

  • You can expect expanded in-person experiences such as in labs, libraries, student clubs and services as other public health restrictions lift

Looking beyond Step 3 to the fall term

Update for employees and graduate students

  • Ontario entered Step 3 of its reopening plan and is seeing positive trends in vaccinations and low numbers of COVID-19 cases 
  • While we may be able to significantly expand in-person experiences this fall, our current academic approach will remain largely as planned: a mix of online and in-person courses
