Can exceptions be made to accessing labs on weekends or after 6pm?

At this time, labs can only be accessed between 8:00am and 6pm Monday to Friday. No weekend or holiday access is allowed. Work or training should not be scheduled outside these hours. As examples:

  • If an experiment takes 6 hours, it should not be started at 2 pm with the expectation that work after 6 pm is allowed.  Instead, the experiment should be started so that it ends well before the 6pm deadline.
  • If an experiment is to take 3 days, it should commence on a Monday or Tuesday to allow completion within the hours of access.

Access outside the hours listed is only for maintenance of critical equipment or processes (for example: feeding cell cultures, checking status of experiments that run over a week or longer, ensuring a glovebox has an appropriate atmosphere).
