I’m a new international student who is scheduled to begin my studies online in fall 2020. Are biometrics or a medical exam required?

You may be required to provide biometrics as a part of your application. Due to the various office closures, the biometrics deadline has automatically been extended from 30 to 90 days, but you will not be penalized if you cannot complete the biometrics within the 90-day window. No application will be refused due to one’s inability to complete biometrics, however you must book an appointment as soon as you’re able. See the FAQs about biometrics for more details and keep an eye on your country’s visa application centre.

If you’re facing delays with completing other aspects of your study permit application after it’s been submitted, such as the medical examination, please use the IRCC webform to notify IRCC.

Please note that information from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada continues to change. It's recommended that you always contact the University of Waterloo’s Immigration Consulting team if you have any questions you would like to discuss.
