As part of our safe return to campus, the University has developed Campus Check-in to allow us to meet guidelines from the Government of Canada for post-secondary institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular: keeping a safe, secure record/sign-in system of students/faculty/staff/visitors who access a campus building for learning and research activities, to facilitate public health investigation of cases and contacts in the event of an exposure at a campus building. Campus Check-In will also help us monitor campus building occupancy levels, assist units to evaluate the success of their return to campus plans, allow the University to identify potentially overcrowded areas, and provide students and employees with a reminder to conduct a health self-assessment each day of planned attendance on campus. Campus Check-In records location, date/time and identity information for visits to University of Waterloo buildings. Campus Check-In records the date/time, identity information, and pass/fail status for each day the user is on campus and advised to perform the COVID-19 screening. For automated location recording via use of the eduroam Wi-Fi network, the location is the building Wi-Fi Access Point name to which the user is connected. Each AP serves an approximate 200 square metre area. Records containing identity information are destroyed after 30 days.
