Welcome to Critical Tourism Studies North America Conference 2016
Critical Tourism Studies (CTS) is an international network of scholars who share a vision of producing and promoting social change in and through tourism practice, research and education. For the past decade, the network has hosted a biennial conference at different venues in Eastern Europe and the United Kingdom.
The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at the University of Waterloo and Department of Tourism Management at Thompson Rivers University are excited to co-host the inaugural CTS North America conference.
The conference will be held Monday, August 1 to Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Waterloo Summit Centre for Environment in Huntsville, Ontario, Canada. Situated in heart of Muskoka and Ontario’s lake country, this venue will provide an ideal setting for advancing understanding of tourism through engaged and inclusive dialogue, critical reflection, collaboration, and creative expression.
Our conference theme is Tourism and Wellness – Travel for the good of all? Envisioned as a “slow conference”, Critical Tourism Studies North America 2016 will include a variety of activities ranging from the traditionally intellectual to the innovative, artistic, and experiential. We invite you to explore this conference website to learn more about this event and how you can participate.
Welcome!
