SUMMARY:Security IP Lecture Series\, Part 1: From Research to Semiconductor
 IP\nwith Mike Borza
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:DATE AND TIME: Wednesday\, June 10\, 11:00 am -12:00 pm\n\nLOC
ATION: QNC 1201\, Mike & Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum-Nano\nCentre\, Univer
sity of Waterloo [https://uwaterloo.ca/map/]\n\nRSVP: Please fill out the
 registration form\n[https://uwaterloo.ca/cryptoworks/form/cryptoworks21-
lectures-2026] by\nTuesday\, June 9\, 2026\n\nABSTRACT HIGHLIGHT: Bridgi
ng the gap between functional RTL and\nproduction-quality\, reusable silic
on IP.\n\nABSTRACT:\n\nTurning cutting-edge research into professional sem
iconductor\nIntellectual Property (IP) products that customers will actual
ly adopt\nrequires far more than functional RTL—it demands a shift in ho
w you\ndesign\, document\, verify\, and support your work. This presentati
on\ndiscusses what it takes to package your expertise as reusable\,\nprodu
ction-quality IP: designing for flexibility across applications\,\nbuildin
g comprehensive verification and documentation\, and maintaining\nthe secu
rity and quality standards that customers expect. Whether\nyou're interest
ed in commercializing your research or simply\nunderstanding how your work
might be integrated into real-world\ndesigns\, we'll walk through the pra
ctical realities of semiconductor\nIP development and the practices that s
eparate research prototypes\nfrom professional products.\n\nBIO:\n\nMike B
orza is an industry consultant specializing in business and\ntechnical asp
ects of security for integrated circuits. From 2015\nthrough January 2026\
, he was Synopsys Scientist working broadly on\nsecurity and security inte
llectual property for integrated circuits\nand systems at Synopsys\, Inc.
He has more than 25 years of leadership\nand technology experience in secu
rity and safety critical systems\nengineering. In 2002\, he co-founded and
was CTO of Elliptic\nTechnologies\, acquired by Synopsys in 2015. His p
revious experience\nincludes Chrysalis-ITS (now Thales)\, Ankari (HID Glob
al)\, and Alcatel\nTransport Automation (Thales Transport). He holds more
than 20 US\npatents. He has been an active contributor to the security tas
k group\nof IEEE 802.1\, and was an editor of the 802.1 AR secure device\n
identifier standard. He was vice-chair of the Accellera IP Security\nAssur
ance standard and a member of the IEEE P3164 Security Annotation\nfor Elec
tronic Design Integration working group. He was a Principal\nInvestigator
in the DARPA Automatic Implementation of Secure Silicon\nprogram.\n\n [The
