Yan Li's publication selected for 2019 Best Short Stories in China

Yan Li's short story, Jim Became a Father Again, was based on the true story of James Robertson at Renison. After its publication in the April 2019 issue of Writer magazine in China, it received very warm comments from readers in China who were touched by the noble mindedness of a common Canadian in facing life choices. The story is selected by New China Digest Bimonthly, the most prestigious periodical in China, in its July issue, and "2019 Best Short Stories in China."

Congratulations Yan!

Visiting Scholar position for academic refugee

This story originally appeared in the Daily Bulletin.

Thousands of academics are among the millions of refugees who in recent years have had to flee their home countries due to war or persecution. A collaboration between the Centre for Teaching Excellence at the University of Waterloo and English Language Studies at Renison has resulted in the creation of a visiting scholar position to assist one such academic. (For this story, the visiting scholar asked to be identified as B.A. due to continuing safety concerns.)

Picture of textbook.
