Studies in Islam (SI) emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to studying Islam and Muslims, exploring the history as well as contemporary issues. The capstone course, SI 390R, draws together the questions, learning, and understandings experienced across disciplines. SI offers you the opportunity to:
- enhance your understanding of Islam;
- develop proficiency in Arabic
- prepare for a career in foreign services or in languages.
There are two different academic plans open to students participating in Studies in Islam:
Minor for current UWaterloo students
Students in any degree program can add a minor in Studies in Islam to their university experience. A minor in Studies in Islam plan requires eight courses and an overall cumulative average of at least 65%.
To graduate with the EAS minor, students must declare the minor on their Application to Graduate form.
Diploma for non- or post degree students
Students not registered in degree studies may pursue the Diploma in Studies in Islam. The Diploma in Studies in Islam requires eight courses and an overall cumulative average of at least 65%.
