What campus resources and opportunities are available?

Whether you are looking to submit a dental claim or trying to figure out where to live next term, there are many campus resources, services and opportunities available to you.  Below is a sampling of some of the more commonly used offices and services for graduate students. For a full listing, visit the University of Waterloo offices and services web page.

Academic Integrity
  • Academic Integrity (AI) is the cornerstone of research, teaching, and learning.
  • Members of the UWaterloo community are expected to personally demonstrate academic integrity in their work. The Office of Academic Integrity will help you do so.
  • Find information on the Graduate Academic Integrity Module (Graduate AIM).
AccessAbility Services
  • Provides services, support, and academic accommodations for UWaterloo students who have a permanent disability as well as those with a temporary disability.
Athletics and Recreation
  • Varsity sports, intramural and sports clubs, aquatics, first aid, conditioning, fitness and wellness, equipment loans, facility hours.
  • Books and courseware, author events.
Centre for Career Action
  • Two full time graduate career advisors are dedicated to serve you.
  • There are workshops, appointments, and resources to help guide your post-academic career development.

Centre for Teaching Excellence

  • Provides workshops, small-group practice teaching sessions (microteaching), classroom observations and other sessions that help prepare graduate students at uWaterloo for their teaching roles.
  • Certificate programs: Fundamentals of University Teaching, Certificate in University Teaching, Certificate in University Language Teaching.
Conflict Management & Human Rights
  • Acts as a focal point and resource to all members of the university community regarding matters of harassment, discrimination and other general forms of conflict.
Counselling Services
  • Offers several resources to support students, including coping skills seminars, workshops. therapy groups, etc.
Food Services
  • Find out what to eat and where on campus.
  • a centrally coordinated program to help grad students prepare for a professional life after grad school.
Graduate Student Association (GSA)
  • A graduate student run not-for-profit organization who actively promotes and represent graduate student interests to the university administration and all levels of government.
  • The GSA provides a number of services for graduate students, such as legal aid, income tax aid, supplementary health and dental plans, GRT bus pass, and student advocacy.
Graduate House
  • The Graduate House is operated by the Graduate Student Association.
  • Located on the grassy hill of south campus, the Graduate House is YOUR graduate student lounge.

Health Services (for individual students)

  • Health Services provides primary medical care for all registered UWaterloo students.

Health Services (Family Health Clinic - for students with families)

  • UWaterloo Family Health clinic provides registered students, their spouses and children medical care.
Immigration consulting
  • Immigration consulting can help with questions about study permits, working on and off campus, co-op work permits, temporary resident visa (TRV), electronic Travel Authorizations (eTA), post-graduation work permits, permits and TRVs for spouse/common-law partner and/or children in Canada, inviting family to visit
  • The consultants can also provide information about your health insurance and Government of Canada resources, like how to get a Social Insurance Number. 

Information Systems and Technology (IST)
  • IST provides effective information systems, technology and services in support of learning, teaching, research and administrative needs.

Retail Services
  • Bookstore (books, courseware, print on demand etc.)
  • Campustech (computers, accessories, hardware service centre etc.)
  • New Media Services (printing, scanning, archiving, thesis binding, poster printing, passport photos etc.)
  • Waterloostore (official university crested merchandise and gifts. Sweater, mugs etc.)
  • Writestuff (stationary, lab coats. etc.)
Student Success Office (SSO)
  • Writing help, study skills, international and entrepreneurship support
Writing and Communication Centre
  • Develop your scholarly voice, build strategies for tackling your research paper, article, presentation, thesis or dissertation.
