Challenges of Chinese Water Security and Researches of Fudan Team
Dr. Zheng Zheng, Environmental Science & Engineering, Fudan University, Shanghai, China
To help understand the current water pollution situations in China, several challenges are presented, including uneven distribution and mismatch of water resource, population, and economy; water quality and quantity induced water shortage result from Chinese current economic development mode (high consumption and high emission), which severely hinders sustainable development in China. Current countermeasures are also introduced in this presentation.
As one of the best pollution control research teams in China, Fudan team has been providing solutions over the last two decades. To address these issues, Fudan team developed several key pollution control technologies to integrate with other advanced technologies. A series of basin pollution control technologies were invented to cover a wide range of water issues across China and adapted to fit in the local situation. These technologies were specifically targeted to solve pollution problems from rural wastewater and agriculture activities, ecological restoration of river body and basin, and eutrophication (especially cyanobacterial bloom control) issue in lakes. Over recent years, they were proven to be effective and feasible in several demonstration projects.
