University of Waterloo Teaching and Learning Conference 2017

Be curious with us on April 27 at CTE's ninth annual teaching and learning conference. This year's conference theme engages with all things curious in teaching and learning. Learn from educational researchers and Waterloo instructors as they share their teaching strategies, research methodologies, and much more in interactive workshops and poster presentations.

Keynote speaker: Peter Felten

Can we teach curiosity? That's the question Peter Felten asks in his keynote session, which will open the conference on April 27. Felten, assistant provost for teaching and learning, executive director of the Center for Engaged Learning, and professor of history at Elon University, asks what happens when we consider curiosity to be a set of practices that we can actively cultivate.

Featured session: Igniting our practice

We asked inspirational University of Waterloo professors to draw participants ;into the learning spaces they create for their students and ignite our curiosity about their field or course. This year, Vivian Dayeh (Continuing Lecturer, Biology) gives us an inside look at her introductory physiology class, and Brent Doberstein (Associate Professor, Geography and Environmental Management) will simulate a technique that can involve the public in environmental decisions.
