Raoul-Marie Couture's research combines in-situ field measurements with environmental modelling to investigate the speciation and fate of nutrients, major and trace elements in freshwater environments.
Since 2013, he is a Senior Researcher Norwegian Institute for Water Research in Oslo, Norway while he continues to teach short courses and do research at the University of Waterloo.
Biogeochemical and water quality modelling: biogeochemical cycles in lakes and reservoirs; sediment biogeochemistry and diagenetic modelling; reactive-transport modelling
Anthropogenic pressures on water quality: atmospheric deposition of contaminents; eutrophiciation; hypoxia; source apportionment using stable isotopes (eg. Pb)
Oxyanions biogeochemistry and speciation: Arsenic (As), Selenium (Se), Phosphorus (P), Sulfur (S); synchrotron and X-ray based techniques
Dr. Couture's research combines in-situ field measurements with environmental modelling to investigate the speciation and fate of nutrients, major and trace elements in freshwater environments.
He has a particular interest in using mechanistic models to understand the coupled biogeochemical cycles of environmentally important elements in lakes and reservoirs.
