Cobalt Discovery Mine Tunnel Grand Opening

Covering is removed to reveal exhibit plaques

It's official: our replica mine tunnel is now complete and ready to be explored! Our grand opening was a success as many donors, alumni and others came out to witness the official unveiling of the donor recognition and mine tunnel plaques signaling the finish of our mine tunnel project.

Stromatolite addition to rock garden

Wayne DeBrusk of Shuniah Township, near Thunder Bay, has donated a wonderful example of stromatolitic limestone to the Earth Sciences museum. Originally from the Eaglehead Lake area north of Thunder Bay, this boulder was found in a gravel pit. "Strom," as Wayne calls it, is now installed in our rock garden.

Amethyst artwork arrival

Installed in July of 2012, the newest piece in our Conestoga Rovers Learning Centre:

Amethyst artwork by artist Norm Couvrette of Rogue Metal Art, Tucson, Arizona, comprising of an amethyst geode mounted on metal artwork. We encourage visitors to have a photo taken with their face framed in amethyst from Rio Du Sol, Brazil.

Peter Russell thanks Shirley Chatten for the new exhibit which was supported by the special initiatives fund 2011 and UW Recreation Committee on behalf of UWaterloo employees.
