Seminar with Ray Ison: "Australia’s Murray-Darling Basin, A systemic governance approach."

Thursday, September 27, 2012 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Environment 2, Room 2006, University of Waterloo

The Murray-Darling River Basin (MDB) is Australia's most economically
and culturally significant river system. In 2007 a new Water Act
was introduced that was seen by many to be the harbinger of a Commonwealth-led basin-saving era. In this presentation I will use recent
research from the Systemic Governance Research Program based
within the Monash Sustainability Institute to explore why the hopes
of many were quickly dashed. Drawing on our overall approach the
case for an alternative way of understanding, managing and researching
the MDB will be outlined.
