A visit from UWaterloo Econ alumnus named to "40 under 40" list by CIO Magazine

Lunch with alumnus Michael Ashmore

Thanks to Economics Alumnus Michael Ashmore (BA Honours in Economics) for visiting us at the University of Waterloo. Michael currently works in New York for OMERS Capital Markets. He was named by Chief Investment Officer Magazine to their 40 Under 40 list of people who show great passion for their work and are potential game changers of the future. We are always very happy to hear from our alumni and learn how their education has helped them along their career path.

Professor Joel Blit briefs G7 Sherpas on the future of work

Professor Blit briefed the personal representatives of the G7 Prime Ministers and Presidents (Sherpas) on technology and the future of work during their first G7 Sherpa meeting. Canada holds the G7 presidency in 2018 and has put forward the themes of investing in growth that works for everyone, preparing for the jobs of the future, advancing gender equality, building a more peaceful and secure world, and working together on climate change, oceans, and clean energy.

Professor Jean Paul Lam comments on Ontario's deficit plans on CBC French

The University of Waterloo’s Jean Paul Lam suggests that Ontario's plans to eliminate its deficit by 2017-2018 will require further cuts in spending and the selling off of more crown corporations. He states that the budget fails to address the aging demographic in Ontario, which will lead to increased pressure in health care spending and a reduced potential for future growth.
