Job Posting: CRC Tier II in Indigenous Studies, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo is seeking to fill a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) and tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated (flexible) start date of January 2022. The applicant will be an exceptional Indigenous scholar who has a demonstrated commitment to engaging both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and community members in teaching and research activities and whose work will contribute to one or more of our academic units.

Prof Steph Lluis comments on Lessons from Employment Insurance for the CERB

With the pandemic going on, there is lots of talk about CERB, the benefit that was created as an emergency response. Professor Stephanie Lluis wrote a memo for the C.D. Howe Institute titled, "Lessons from Employment Insurance for the CERB" where she discusses how employment insurance can provide guidance for the CERB.

Successful PhD defence: Renfang Tian

Renfang Tian

Congratulations to PhD student Renfang Tian who successfully defended her PhD! Her thesis is titled, “On Functional Data Analysis: Methodologies and Applications”. Her supervisor was Professor Tao Chen. The department is incredibly proud of your hard work. Renfang will be an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) at King's University College at Western University.

Economics Grad Receives 2018 Arts Young Alumni Award

The Arts Young Alumni Award recognizes alumni who have made outstanding contributions in their professional field, in the community, and in public service within 10 years of graduation. This year, the recipient of this award is Mandy Tao, a graduate of the UW Economics program (2011).

This Arts Young Alumni Award is another proud achievement Mandy can add to her already impressive resume. Currently serving as the Director of Strategy at Merck, Mandy has also been busy co-founding "Education Togo Switzerland", learning new languages and climbing volcanoes.

Economics student wins 2017 Co-op Student of the Year Award

Matt Condie, Honours Economics and Arts & Business student, was awarded the 2017 Co-op Student of the Year award. This award is presented to one student per faculty every year for exceptional contributions to one or more of their work term employers. Matt stepped up to the plate in a big way during his work term at HubHead Corporation and successfully reinvented the company's social media presence.
