Dr. B. Ralph Chou received a Bachelor of Science in astronomy from the University of Toronto in 1973, a Doctor of optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 1979, and a Master degree of science in physiological optics from the University of Waterloo in 1982. He is currently an associate professor in the school of optometry at the University of Waterloo.
Dr. Chou holds professional appointments as the academic editor of the Canadian journal of optometry, associate editor of the University of Waterloo school of optometry (UWSO) contact lens journal, and vice chairman of the technical committee on industrial eye protection, Canadian standards association. He serves on committees of the Canadian examiners in optometry, the royal astronomical society of Canada, commission 46 of the international astronomical union, and the science teachers association of Ontario. He has been active in the national board of examiners in optometry, and the college of optometrists of Ontario.
He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications, and a leading authority on eye-safety concerns in viewing solar eclipses.
