Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. These are exciting times; over the past few years, our department has grown to a complement of more than 90 regular faculty and 50 staff members. We have expanded into new sub-disciplines, offering not only undergraduate programs in computer, electrical, and software engineering, but contributing to programs in nanotechnology, mechatronics, and biomedical engineering.
Our 2,000+ undergraduate and 500+ graduate students, and our 12,000+ alumni give us countless reasons to be proud. Our students work tirelessly to reach the finish line, but the knowledge they gain here prepares them for a bright future ahead. Our graduates become successful problem-solvers working for leading research laboratories, teachers at top-ranked universities, and entrepreneurial moguls implementing transformational ideas in Canada and abroad improving our quality of life. Our department is dedicated to excellence in teaching and we are Educating the Engineer of the Future.
With more than $20 million in annual research funding and over 13,000 square metres of space comprised of state-of-the-art laboratories and unique facilities, our department seeks to make a strong and positive impact far beyond our own borders; our outlook is global. Our researchers are revolutionizing the world by developing the latest technologies and cutting edge research.
I invite you to explore our website and learn more about our programs and the exciting research taking place. Furthermore, I look forward to welcoming you to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a student, colleague or visitor.
