Abstract:

A bright, deterministic source of single photons can be obtained by optically exciting a semiconductor quantum dot embedded inside a tapered nanowire waveguide. A finite-difference time-domain model of this optically-driven source yielded optimized architectural parameters to obtain a high transmission efficiency and a circular Gaussian far-field emission profile. An additional model of a gated nanowire source examined the effect of the surrounding structures on the emission properties of the source.
