Title

Side-Channel Analysis and Embedded Systems Security

Abstract

Side-Channel Analysis plays an important role in the area of embedded systems security. These types of attacks aim to bypass the intrinsic mathematical security of the cryptosystems by observing side-effects of the execution of the cryptographic protocol and exploiting any relationship or correlation to the internal secret parameters of the cryptosystem. These side-effects can include parameters such as time to complete the operations (or in any case, timing characteristics) or power consumption.

In this talk, we will focus on power analysis; specifically, simple power analysis (SPA) and look into its impact on the embedded systems area. Side-channel attacks are particularly suitable when adversaries have physical access to the device, which is often the case with embedded systems. We will also look into aspects that, while related to embedded systems security, can potentially affect other areas of study in the field of embedded systems.
