Meaningful Metrics for Evaluating Dissimilar Coexisting Wireless Systems
Abstract
Recently, spectrum sharing has attracted a lot of attention as a supplementary means to support the ever-increasing traffic demands of modern digital economies. However, the growing trends towards dense deployments of dissimilar wireless systems in shared bands pose new challenges to spectrum management. One of the key problems faced by regulators is the lack of meaningful metrics that can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of emerging spectrum sharing models and coexistence of dissimilar wireless systems. This seminar will focus on the challenges involved and metrics developed for assessing wireless systems that coexist in shared spectrum bands.
Biography
Humphrey Rutagemwa received the B.Sc. degree (with first-class honors) in electronics and communications from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 1998 and the MASc and PhD degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada, in 2002 and 2007, respectively. Since 2007, he has been with the Communications Research Centre Canada, where he is currently a Research Scientist. His research interests include wireless communications and networking, with particular focus on algorithms and protocols development, modeling and performance evaluation, and spectrum management.
