Title

Factored Solution of Power System Equations

Abstract

Analysis, supervision, optimal operation and control of power systems involve the solution of large-scale nonlinear equations. Efficiently and reliably solving such equations is of paramount importance, owing to the need of repeatedly solving many scenarios or providing solutions in real time. This seminar will summarize the recently introduced factored solution procedure, by which the solution of nonlinear network equations is decomposed into two steps: a linear problem followed by a modified nonlinear system. The solution provided by the linear sub- problem helps the subsequent nonlinear system to converge more reliably and faster. Application of this solution approach to WLS state estimation and load flow problems will be illustrated on realistic systems.
