Leak-detection startup books spot in pitch finals

A technology startup company founded by two Waterloo Engineering professors has earned a spot in the finals of an international pitch competition for water innovations.

Electrical and computer engineering PhD student to receive Amit and Meena Chakma Award for Exceptional Teaching by a Student

The Amit and Meena Chakma Awards for Exceptional Teaching by a Student for 2021 will be presented to four student teachers this year, including one from electrical and computer engineering. Jeff Casello, associate vice-president, graduate studies and postdoctoral affairs, and chair of the selection committee provided the report to the University's Senate on Monday this week.

WATORACE wins 4th in Indy Autonomous Challenge Virtual Race #3

WATORACE, including ECE’s own Andy Li, Ben Zhang, and Rollen D’Souza, won 4th place in the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) virtual race #3, also capturing the Rising Star Award. The IAC brings together 18 university teams from 11 countries on 4 continents in the world’s first head-to-head, high-speed autonomous race at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS).

Experts weigh in on the future of autonomous vehicles

An expert panel that features a Waterloo Engineering professor released its report on the potential impact and key issues surrounding connected, autonomous, shared and electric (CASE) vehicles.

Convened in the summer of 2019 by the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA), the panel stressed there are pressing decisions required to achieve potential benefits from CASE vehicles including economic growth and cleaner, safer, more accessible transportation.

Waterloo shines in new global subject rankings

The University of Waterloo has been named one of the world’s top universities for the study of several subjects, according to the latest edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) worldwide university subject rankings, released on Wednesday, March 3.

Waterloo is ranked in the top 100 for the broad faculty areas of Engineering & Technology (38th) and Natural Sciences (79th).
