Hello, my name is Chandrakiran Subramaniam (a.k.a Chander) and I am an undergraduate enrolled in Computer Engineering (with co-op) at the University of Waterloo. I hail from Dubai and the International experience has been amazing at Waterloo Engineering! Compared to Dubai, I can explore a lot more places in Canada. From an urban setting to a calm countryside, or even both, Canada has it all!
Waterloo Engineering in one word:
I chose Waterloo Engineering because:
The courses structured in ECE inculcate the necessary skills, knowledge and practical experience required to thrive in the modern workforce.
The best thing about my program is:
Community. ECE is the largest faculty in Engineering. Period. The amount of resources available to make you feel a part of the community is indeed overwhelming. From your personalized virtual PC, circuits kit, design projects to the amazing mates in your cohort, ECE is your home away from home.
Vast opportunities available in fields including hardware, software, middleware and firmware. One of my favorite aspects of co-op is networking. Making connections is key, be it with peers or your workforce. I have worked in the financial sector (CIBC, Manulife) related to middleware and wish to enhance my skills palette through my remaining work terms :)
I wish I had known before I came:
That there is an app called WATisRain. This app basically shows you how to get across any building on-campus indoors. Yes, that’s right! So, you don’t ever have to walk out during winter (unless you love the chill) between buildings.
Outside the classroom, I’m involved with:
Apart from tours and shadow days as an Engineering Ambassador, reach out to me if:
- You need first-year ECE/general advice.
- Resume Critique / Interview tips
- Play a neat game of squash
- Just want to grab a drink!
One more thing about me:
I am a pro-am Go-Kart racer! Oh, I am also left-handed (if that’s fascinating…)
