Management Engineering 2022

Daria Yampolsky

Hi Guys!

My name is Daria Yampolsky, I’m from Thornhill Ontario and am in the Management Engineering class of 2022. I love Waterloo engineering and the exceptional community here! The opportunities to get involved and meet people with the same interests are never ending. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Waterloo Engineering in one word:

Unique

I chose Waterloo Engineering because:

I chose Waterloo Engineering because it is ideal for my goal to become a highly skilled and innovative leader. At Waterloo you not only gain technical knowledge but also learn how to apply it to solve global and business problems. The variety of interdisciplinary programs, co-op opportunities and a strong sense of belonging attracted me to this engineering school. Waterloo Engineering opens many doors and provides you all the tools you need to excel in the future.

The best thing about my program is:

I chose management engineering because it is a one of a kind program which ideally targets my interests. The best thing about management engineering is the process of acquiring and developing a variety of skills in what I am passionate about: finance, software, industrial roles, project management, marketing and mechanical design. Working alongside and meeting people with a similar mindset and interest makes my program amazing.

About Co-op:

I am on my first co-op term so I have limited co-op experience. However, I already noticed that Management Engineering prepares you for a wide variety of co-op opportunities. I am very pleased with my current co-op as a Data Science Platform Technologist at Dynacare. I work on identifying use-cases where data science solutions can be applied to enhance business outcomes and add value to the company’s operations, customers and the healthcare ecosystem more broadly.

I wish I had known before I came:

Before I came to Waterloo I wish I’d known that there is no need to worry. Waterloo Engineering is not that intimidating and extremely competitive. If you need help with academics do not be afraid to get it, whether it is through the WEEF TAs or your classmates. Make sure you make time for the things you love! This is difficult, so time management and organization skills are a must.

Outside the classroom, I’m involved with:

I am involved with Engineering Ambassadors, The Industry 4.0 Design Team, Waterloo Outers club and regularly attend EngSoc events.

One more thing about me:

I love to travel and have been to 16 countries. I enjoy hiking and other outdoor sports. I have summited several mountains in America and Europe.
