Hello! I’m Katrina and I’m part of the Electrical Engineering Class of 2021!
Waterloo Engineering in one word:
I choose Waterloo Engineering because:
Waterloo’s co-op program is amazing. The work experience I’ll have leaving the University of Waterloo doesn’t compare to other internship programs. On top of that, I am getting a great education that balances the theory and applications of electrical engineering.
The best thing about my program is:
The versatility of both the curriculum and the people. Electrical Engineering involves software and hardware, so we are taught fundamentals of circuits, algorithms and electromagnetism. Our cohort of students is a blend of electrical and computer engineering until the 2B term, so there are lots of friends to make! As the largest department, there’s never a shortage of ECE students.
About my Co-op experience:
Coop has given and continues to provide opportunities to figure out what career is right for me. I have worked in software development, data analytics, process automation, energy management, and consulting. It’s a unique opportunity to sample multiple jobs and see how concepts learned in the classroom transfer to the workplace.
I wish I had known before I came:
I wish I knew more about the resources available to me. Help is available for students both within and beyond academics. There are WEEF TAs, the First Year Engineering Office, councillors, peer mentors, residence dons and great events like resume critiques, wellness walks, and puppy therapy! Life’s what you make it so reach out and participate!
Outside the classroom, I’m involved with:
- Engineering Ambassadors (so you may see me giving tours during open houses)
- EngSoc First Year Mentorship Program (here to help first year students transition into university)
- UWACC Ace A Capella Club (I’m an alto!)
A fun project I’ve completed:
Building a 6 ft angular fish head out of cardboard, tissue paper and duct tape as an orientation week leader.
One more thing about me:
I love Zumba! :)
