Biomedical Engineering 2027
Julia Evans

Introduce yourself briefly:

Hi, my name is Julia Evans and I am a 1B Biomedical Engineering student here at UWaterloo and will be graduating in 2027.

Waterloo Engineering in one word:

Beyond

I chose Waterloo Engineering because:

I chose Waterloo Engineering because of the amazing opportunities presented here at Waterloo that you can’t get anywhere else. Opportunities like direct entry programs, Co-op, and reputation of the school passed onto each of its students.

The best thing about my program is:

The community is the best part of my program. At Waterloo Engineering our cohort based learning provides a proud sense of belonging, and you get to know your classmates really well.

About my Co-op experience:

N/A

I wish I had known before I came:

When they say there’s a lot of geese in Waterloo, they mean there’s A LOT of geese in Waterloo. Be warned. But, a great way to avoid the geese is by staying inside, and you can get almost anywhere on campus without setting foot in the wind, rain, or snow!

Outside the classroom, I’m involved with:

Outside of the classroom, I am an Engineering Society Representative where we attend meetings, vote on important motions, and host all kinds of fun events. I live in the Women in Engineering Living Learning Community at United College where we do fun activities and support each other through our academic careers. Lastly, I am also a Varsity Curler. Let’s go Warriors!

A fun project I’ve completed:

In my design course last term, we designed and prototyped a wheelchair-friendly interactive button game, used to elevate the user’s heart rate and promote exercise. We had a lot of fun playing it in the testing phase and the project was a great success!

One more thing about me:

I love making new friends and you’ll almost always find me walking around with a smile on my face. So if you see me around, don’t be afraid to send a wave my way. Can’t wait to see you at future EngSoc events!
