Waterloo Engineering in one word:
Rewarding.
I choose Waterloo Engineering because:
Of the amazing co-op program, it has to offer! I was always interested in the world of technology and wanted to get hands on experience applying in-class curriculum on the job. Having the opportunity to complete six different internships would enable me to not only work at completely different companies but also try out a variety of different roles.
The best thing about my program is:
How versatile our degree really is! My program is truly one of a kind as it allows me to combine a variety of different interests of mine, including product management and software development.
About my Co-op experience:
I have currently completed 6 co-op terms, at large, medium and small sized companies. My first co-op was at RBC, Technology & Operations as a Communications Analyst. My second co-op was at Tribal Scale as an Agile Software Test Engineer. My third co-op was at Stratus360, as a Full Stack Developer. My fourth co-op term was as a part of the RBC Amplify program. My fifth co-op was at RBC as a Data Engineer. And, for my very last co-op term I worked at Twitter as a Product Manager. Having worked in various facets of the Technology sector I’ve gained a diverse skillset, made new friends, learned more about different companies, and have discovered what I want to do in the future!
I wish I had known before I came:
The next 5 years will be quite challenging and may seem daunting at first. I can attest to the fact that it won’t be an easy ride however, it will all be worth it in the end. Waterloo Engineering will enable you to meet some of the most inspiring individuals, work at really cool co-ops and gain a world class education. So, have fun and make the most of your time here!
Outside the classroom, I’m involved with:
I am involved with Engineering Ambassadors, and the Women in Engineering Outreach Squad team. In the past I have also been an executive on the Industry 4.0 Design Team, Students Offering Support and Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers’ (IISE) Waterloo Chapter. I also love attending and being a mentor at a variety of different hackathons.
A fun project I’ve completed:
My Fourth Year Capstone Design Project! It has been a great opportunity to work in a team and develop an application, to help improve the student job search experience, using what we have learnt in different courses throughout our undergraduate degree.
One more thing about me:
I love travelling, meeting new people and stepping outside my comfort zone to try new things!
