We are the largest engineering school in Canada, with over 10,100 students enrolled in 2018. In 2018/19, external research funding from Canadian and international partners exceeded $96 million, a strong indication of our extensive industry partnerships and the excellence of our engineering research programs.

  1. Aug. 14, 2019Robots, self-driving car featured on Amazing Race

    Humanoid robots in an Engineering 7 maze and a self-driving car being developed by a University of Waterloo student design team were featured last night in an episode of CTV’s The Amazing Race Canada.

    Filmed on campus in early May, the events showcased the state-of-the-art RoboHub and work by WATonomous, and were broadcast in an episode that also included several other locations in Kitchener and Waterloo.

  2. Aug. 14, 2019Blockchain could boost trust in EV charging systems

    A professor at Waterloo Engineering has teamed up with computer science colleagues and an industry partner in research on the integration of blockchain technology into energy systems.

    Lukasz Golab, a professor of management sciences, collaborated on a study that could lead to expanded infrastructure for electric vehicles by introducing an open blockchain platform to boost trust in charging systems.

  3. Aug. 13, 2019Researchers awarded $1.75 million for infrastructure

    Fourteen researchers at Waterloo Engineering were awarded a total of more than $1.75 million this week through a federal program to give researchers the tools and equipment they need to become leaders in their fields.

    Across all faculties at the University of Waterloo, 23 researchers were awarded over $2.9 million through the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund.
