We are the largest engineering school in Canada, with almost 10,500 students enrolled in 2019. In 2018/19, external research funding from Canadian and international partners exceeded $96 million, a strong indication of our extensive industry partnerships and the excellence of our engineering research programs.

Daniel Grégoire, a Waterloo chemical engineering researcher, has been awarded a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship to continue his research on the effects of pollutants in aquatic ecosystems.
The fellowship will provide Grégoire $70,000 annually for two years.

A researcher at Waterloo Engineering is part of a team that has been awarded US $412,000 by the National Football League (NFL) to develop a better, safer helmet.
Duane Cronin, a professor of mechanical and mechatronics engineering, will contribute sophisticated impact testing and advanced computer modelling to optimize helmet performance and reduce the risk of head injuries.

An experienced professor is leaving Vermont to join the University of Waterloo as the new chair of the Department of Systems Design Engineering.
Lisa Aultman-Hall, who comes to Waterloo as a tenured full professor by way of the University of Vermont, the University of Kentucky and the University of Connecticut, is scheduled to assume her post as chair Aug. 1 for an initial four-year term.
