Opened in October 2010, Engineering 5 (E5) has become the new home for the departments of mechanical and mechatronics engineering, systems design engineering and electrical and computer engineering.

The focal point of E5 is the world-class 20,000-square-foot student design centre that includes 10 work bays for student teams, and paint shops, engine test labs, design studios and opportunities for collaborations that didn’t exist in the past.

At six storeys and more than 150,000 gross square feet, E5 is one of the largest buildings on campus and with its glass walls, green roof and native landscaping it is one of the most innovative as well.

The building was honoured with a 2011 Global Excellence Award Best of Category in the Cultural/Institutional/Educational Category by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). Winners of the competition were chosen from 92 international design firms from 32 countries.
