Speakers

Thouheed Abdul Gaffoor (MASc '17)
CEO and Co-Founder, EMAGIN Inc.
Co-founder of EMAGIN, Thouheed delivers strong foundational knowledge in the process control and optimization of water and wastewater infrastructure. He has delivered several water and energy modelling and optimization projects across Canada during his research, consulting and government tenures with the University of Waterloo, City of Guelph, Hatch Ltd., Environment Canada and Niagara Region.

Farnoud Kazemzadeh (BSc '08, MASc '12, PhD '16)
CEO and Co-Founder, Elucid Labs
Iman Khodadad (PhD '17)
CTO and Co-founder, Elucid Labs
Elucid Labs is a medtech venture in Waterloo. The team consists of world-leading experts in optical imaging, computational imaging and artificial intelligence, with extensive academic and industrial experience and innovation. AIDA is an augmented intelligence imaging solution for early detection and diagnosis of skin cancer. AIDA's proprietary imaging technology probes the molecular makeup of the skin at different layers and produces an unique fingerprint for the mole/lesion.  AIDA's proprietary AI technology translates this fingerprint into valuable clinical knowledge to assist dermatologists in making better, faster, and more well informed decisions. Using AIDA, detection and diagnosis of skin cancer can be performed at much earlier stages of development which in turn reduces the cost of treatment as well as significantly reducing the unnecessary biopsies carried out every year. Elucid Labs has recently been honoured by the Canadian Innovation Exchange as one of the top 20 most innovative technology companies in Canada.

Ning Jiang
Assistant Professor, Systems Design Engineering and Director of Waterloo Engineering Bionics Lab
Combining his industrial, academic and clinical experiences, his current research interests include artificial intelligence in the signal analysis and processing of electromyography (EMG), electroencephalogram (EEG), electrocardiogram (ECG), and the applications of these signals in human-machine interfaces. The Engineering Bionics Lab develops next generation human-machine interfaces where artificial intelligence (AI) and human intelligence are integrated harmonically. Specifically, using AI algorithms to analysis brain waves, we are developing rehabilitation systems that can accurately detect movement intentions of paralyzed stroke patients, so that they can recover faster.
