Lecture Opening in Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications for two Faculty positions at the rank of Lecturer. Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering and hold an engineering license for practice in Canada. The applicants must also have demonstrated an interest in engineering education pedagogy.  While the initial appointment is for a three-year definite term Lecturer, with the possibility of a renewal for another three, the appointed Lecturer may be considered for an on-going appointment thereafter as Continuing Lecturer if he/she demonstrates outstanding performance in teaching and service.

All applicants must have a proven ability or excellent potential for outstanding teaching in chemical engineering, have strong communication skills and be committed to professional development and community building. Demonstrated service experience will be considered as a strong asset.  For at least one of the positions, the department will consider industrial experience, with a focus on chemical process equipment, flowsheet simulations, optimization and design software, to be a strong asset. The expected teaching load is 4 to 6 courses per year, with regular non-teaching terms of four-month duration every two years for scholarly rejuvenation and development activities. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated exceptional teaching skills.

The salary range is $85,000 to $105,000, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.

The Department of Chemical Engineering offers a collegial, interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment.  With 37 faculty members and a total annual enrolment of 550 undergraduate and over 200 graduate students, it is one of the largest Chemical Engineering departments in Canada.  The department benefits from state-of-the-art research labs and instructional spaces in both Engineering 6, a 115,000 square-foot building with 48 research labs, as well as in the Mike and Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum Computing-Nano Center, a 285,000 square-foot building that houses more than 50 researchers. The undergraduate programs in Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering (jointly with the Departments of Chemistry and Electrical and Computer Engineering) and Biomedical Engineering draw the top students from across Canada.
