Meet Matthew Casale!

My name is Matthew Casale, I am just finishing up my 3B term in Environmental Engineering. I never really know what to write for these, but I love cards, board games, and hiking (I know hikes, surprising for an enviro).

What is your position on EngSoc? What are some of your roles and responsibilities?

I am currently the president for Engineering-B. This involves a lot of different things, but the average day is speaking with the university to advocate for students, talking to students so I know how to advocate, working with my team to have events and resources throughout the term, and coordinate with other organizations to try to give students the best experience I can.

What is EngSoc? How can students become involved?

The Engineering society is an organization that host events, provides resources, and advocates for students. These can be the exam bank, the mental health events or work shops, or things like semi formal and genius bowl.

The great part about the engineering society is that if you are student in engineering you are apart of it. To become more involved students can come out to events, volunteer their time as a director or commissioner. Participating in events and using the resources provided is probably the best and to me most important way students can get involved.

What are some tips you have for online school?

Honestly, something that stuck with me is that it’s okay to not be doing your best right now. A lot of students are burnt out and are tired and that’s okay. So, my advice is reach out to friends, family, your professor, or TAs. One of the best parts of Engineering, to me, is the community and trying to have that online is so incredibly important.

Favourite Waterloo memory so far? (event, course, etc.)

I thought for a while and I couldn't pick one. My favorite part about being in Waterloo is the people. Getting to be apart of the Waterloo community has definitely been the best part of my career here in Waterloo.

Are you a part of any other clubs/teams at Waterloo?

I am one of the gradcomm chairs for 2022 which will be a ton of fun and we are super excited to get that started.
