Rick Mercer meets the Autonomoose for CBC segment

The host of the Rick Mercer Report made stops at Engineering 5 and a local test track for a light-hearted look at aerial drones and autonomous vehicles in a segment that aired on the CBC this week.

Mercer opened the six-minute piece by describing Waterloo as a “hotbed of high-tech innovation” and the University of Waterloo as the place “where the tech leaders of tomorrow come to plan not only their future, but ours as well.”

Intellijoint wins approval for new hip replacement tool

A medical technology company founded by three Waterloo Engineering graduates has expanded the scope of its products with approval in the United States of a smart tool for hip replacements using a different technique.

Intellijoint Surgical Inc., which traces its roots to a mechatronics engineering Capstone Design project, recently announced clearance by the Food and Drug Administration of intellijoint HIP Anterior, a new application for technology already in use by surgeons.

Four engineering subjects ranked in world's top 100

Waterloo Engineering made the world’s top 100 in four of five subjects covered by the 2017 edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) university subject rankings released this week.

Architecture, chemical engineering, civil engineering and electrical engineering at Waterloo all ranked between 51 and 100 worldwide, with mechanical engineering cracking the top 150.

Student startup in the final five for $1-million prize

A student startup backed by the Conrad Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology Centre at Waterloo Engineering has a shot at $1 million in seed funding after winning a prestigious competition for social entrepreneurs.

Team EPOCH topped a field of 61 entries from universities around the world at a recent regional event for the Hult Prize in London, England.

Teams capture top awards at Canadian Engineering Competition

A student team that has developed a unique endoscope placed second in this year's Canadian Engineering Competition hosted by the University of Calgary in early March.

Michael Phillips and Phillip Cooper, both fourth-year mechanical engineering students, competed in the Innovative Design category.
