Google provides $200,000 for engineering outreach

Experiential learning got a boost from Google this week with $200,000 in funding for a Waterloo Engineering program aimed at engaging young people.

The money is specifically earmarked for the creation of an outreach program in a new community space at Google’s Canadian engineering headquarters in Kitchener.

Master's students win project management contest

A team of master’s students at Waterloo Engineering recently took top prize in a provincial competition to promote and recognize project management skills.

The six students – Taru Agarwal, Diana Jaber, Jithin John Matthews, Rafat Tahboosh, Jing Wu and Alizeh Zaman – were recognized by the Wideman Education Foundation for work they did to help teachers in remote areas of Pakistan.

Biomedical engineering student wins top co-op award

A third-year biomedical engineering student who learned Portuguese during a work term has been named one of the University of Waterloo’s top co-op students for 2017.

Vincent Shadbolt, who lists involvement with the Waterloo Dragon Boat Team as one of his interests, got the nod for the Faculty of Engineering for his contributions to his employer, his community and the development of co-operative education.

New institute set to make Waterloo AI research 'shine'

A new institute at the University of Waterloo will focus on fostering campus-wide research into artificial intelligence (AI) and provide a portal for organizations to access its extensive expertise in the rapidly growing field.

Launched today, the Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute will bring together almost 100 faculty members to tackle practical and fundamental problems brought to them by partners in business, government and the non-profit sector.
