Rogers partners with Waterloo to further 5G research

A new partnership between the University of Waterloo and Rogers Communications will focus on 5G research in the areas of engineering, network design, applied mathematics and artificial intelligence.

Announced today, the three-year, multimillion dollar partnership on the cutting-edge wireless technology will also involve building a 5G network on campus to test network infrastructure, frequencies and applications.

Alumni develop exoskeleton to help children walk

A personal connection inspired two Waterloo Engineering graduates to develop technology that helps children with cerebral palsy and other medical conditions walk.

Manmeet Maggu (BASc ’13 – mechatronics engineering) and Rahul Udasi (BASc ’14 – mechatronics engineering) put their training to good use by founding Mississauga-based Trexo Robotics, which now has 11 of its exoskeletons in use by families and hospitals.

ECE researcher named an IEEE fellow

Fakhri Karray, a Waterloo electrical and computer engineering professor, has been honoured as a 2020 fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in recognition of his "contributions to intelligent systems."

Engineering alumni named to Forbes 30 Under 30 lists

At least three Waterloo Engineering alumni have made prestigious 30 Under 30 lists announced by Forbes magazine for 2020.

Chong Shen, 29, Khanjan Desai, 29, and Ryan Gibson, 26, are among 600 up-and-coming entrepreneurs in Canada and the United States cited for their accomplishments in 20 categories.

Professor honoured for engineering contributions

Susan Tighe, a civil and environmental engineering professor, has been named a member of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) for her "exceptional contributions to engineering in Canada."

She will be formally inducted as an EIC member in April 2020 at the institute’s annual awards gala.
