Co-op student makes her mark during term at NRC

An undergraduate student at Waterloo Engineering made an impressive mark in a high-tech area of 3D printing during a co-op work term last year.

Kayley Ting, who is studying biomedical engineering, worked with experts at the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada to solve a messy problem in tomographic 3D printing, which involves the use of light to create objects from photocurable resin in vials.

Software grad named to Forty Under 40 list in Ottawa

A graduate of the software engineering program at Waterloo Engineering has been recognized as a young business leader in Ottawa.

Ronald Richardson (BSE ’07) was named this week to the 2021 Forty Under 40 list produced by the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Board of Trade.

Contenders for the award are assessed based on business accomplishments, professional experience and community involvement.

Waterloo architecture alumnus Alison Books received high commendation in this year’s Female Frontier Awards sponsored by World Architecture News.

Brooks (BES '85 and BArch '88) was recognized in the Architect of the Year category.

Engineering prof developing at-home COVID spit test

A researcher at Waterloo Engineering is co-leader of a project to develop an at-home COVID-19 test that could produce results in less than 20 minutes using saliva.

Sushanta Mitra, a professor of mechanical and mechatronics engineering, is heading the effort with Juewen Liu, a chemistry professor at the University of Waterloo.

A second-year mechatronics engineering student is the recipient of an award from a Canadian organization that champions women enrolled in engineering programs across the country.
