Biography

Jan Huissoon is a professor in the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Department. He served as Chair of the department from 2013 to 2020 and founded Canada's first Mechatronics Engineering program.
Professor Huissoon’s research interests include mechatronic design, sensor based robot and microfluidic control, robotic welding, and autonomous vehicle control.
His projects include Dynamic Seam Tracking for Robotic Welding, Automatic end-of-arm and tool-centre-point calibration, Autonomous Navigation Using Artificial Neural Networks, Arc Acoustics in GMA welding, Walking Wobot Welder, Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal Modeling of Human Locomotion, Integrated Robot Systems, Sensor Based Control, Modelling and Control of Arc Welding Processes, Intelligent Sensing Systems (Ultrasonic, vision), and Autonomous Vehicle Guidance & Control.
Professor Huissoon has authored several patents, including 'Method and device for robot tool frame calibration' (sole author), and 'Mechatronic Handgrip and lever assembly'.
