| Description: |
A new northern Ontario mining hot spot called the “ring of fire”, potentially bigger than the Sudbury basin, is on the cusp of exploitation by many mining companies. With it come challenges in transportation, energy, water, waste, etc. The overarching goal in any mining operation is productivity, as the economics of the sector are highly dependent on time to market, cost management and environmental responsibility. The supply chain leading into and out of the mine are as important as the mining operation itself. Ontario companies need to be prepared to take advantage of the opportunities.
The focus is for research projects to be in the area of Advanced Manufacturing with a demonstrated immediate upstream or downstream benefit to the Mineral industry, leading to novel, newly adapted or adopted processes, products, or services. Companies and researchers in non-mining sectors are encouraged to also participate in this initiative and bring cross-sector expertise and ideas to the table. |
