Renison University College is partnering with Waterloo International (WI) to encourage broad participation through events and activities that will be happening on and off campus for students, staff and faculty. For the week of November 16th-20th, the International Education Week (IEW) looks to host international themed events, celebrate international students, promote our mobility programs and further the internationalization goals of the university.

Activities happening every day 

All events take place in Renison's Atrium, and will be available all week.

  • Guess what it is! We will be showcasing different objects that staff have collected on their travels. Come by and guess what these items are! There will be a prize.
  • Origami station: Come learn how to fold a paper crane! The booth is available all day during the week. Take it home as a souvenir. 
  • Cultural Photo Exhibit: We will be showcasing photos that students submit from their home countries in our Atrium.
  • International Bingo

Special events happening throughout the week

All events take place in Renison's Atrium, from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm.

  • MONDAY: Learn how to say it! Our very own instructors and international students will teach you how to say common everyday phrases in different languages, while dressed in their traditional clothing!
  • TUESDAY: What’s your name? Our international students will be writing your name in different languages with characters on a name card. You can take it with you and hang it up!
  • TUESDAY: Arabic Coffee & Tea
  • WEDNESDAY: Calligraphy Come out and learn how to write different characters, such as, “hello”, in languages such as Japanese and Chinese with old fashioned brushes!  
  • THURSDAY: What's Your Name? Our international students will be writing your name in different languages with characters on a name card. You can take it with you and hang it up!
  • THURSDAY: Korean Drama/Movie
  • FRIDAY: Come Watch Anime! 

Why do we have International Education Week?

  1. Give students, staff and faculty the opportunity to learn more about Waterloo International, specifically the mobility program.
  2. Generate interest in linguistic, cultural and social diversity at UWaterloo.
  3. Encourage students to become active global citizens by volunteering or participating in global initiatives either on or off campus.
  4. Celebrate international students.
  5. Further the internationalization goals of the strategic plan.
  6. Raise cultural awareness and sensitivity by looking for opportunities to embed culture into daily activity.
