Cross-cultural awareness is an important skill to compete in a globalized workforce, as employers understand that internationalization is a large factor in the success of many companies.
Renison English Language Institute is currently recruiting UWaterloo students to get involved in building their cross-cultural skills, and encouraging them to become global thinkers through three student leadership opportunities.
iBASE Rep Peer Helper – Volunteer Opportunity
As an iBASE Rep Peer Helper, you will support English Language Learner students on a volunteer committee (called the iBASE Rep Committee). The Peer Helpers will attend weekly meetings to support these students in developing their language, presentation, facilitation, and cross-cultural skills while organizing a campus-wide event.
This is a great opportunity for you if you want to build your experience in event management while helping English Language Learners learn about presentation and facilitation skills in a North American context.
Registration closes on Friday, June 22 at 11:30 p.m.

You will help students in building strategies for academic and personal success by facilitating peer coaching, leading social/cultural student development programming, and building connections with students.
This is a great opportunity for you if you are an upper-year undergraduate student with a strong knowledge of campus services and resources; student leadership experience; and a good understanding of the first-year international student experience. This position has a strong emphasis on leading and implementing co-curricular activities several days per week, and requires exceptional event planning skills.

International Social Volunteer – Volunteer Opportunity
As an International Social Volunteer, you will support international students who visit Canada during June, July and August as part of Renison’s English For Success (EFS) and Renison International Office (RIO) programs. The EFS & RIO programs focus on building confidence in English communication and presentation skills, as well as discovering the six different Faculties that the University of Waterloo has to offer.
This is a great opportunity for you if you want to help students develop their language skills by attending planned social activities with the EFS & RIO students each week. Potential events you could attend include bonfires, bowling, talent shows, karaoke, campus tours, etc.
