English For Academic Success offered online for Spring 2020

Sunday, April 5, 2020

EFAS studentsRenison remains committed to providing quality English language instruction this spring through a vibrant virtual learning experience. Students are invited to register now for the spring session of English For Academic Success (EFAS) which begins May 1 in an entirely online format.

Whether you are living abroad or still in Canada, you can participate in our Spring session of EFAS from the comfort of your home. Courses will be available online, delivered remotely in a virtual classroom setting.

The EFAS program is ideal for students interested in meeting the English language requirements at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University, as well as students who are interested in pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies at a university where English is the language of instruction.

How does online EFAS work?

In EFAS, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with experienced TESL-certified instructors and other students in a small, virtual classroom community.

Students will be able to enjoy a combination of:

  • Real-time class instruction that provide quality curriculum that is benchmarked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a global standard in English language proficiency.
  • Pre-recorded instructional videos that you can rewind and play repeatedly
  • Online instructional activities to ensure you are engaged in your learning

As direct communication is very important in our courses, we will have timeslots where students will receive direct feedback from their instructors about their work.

In addition to the virtual classroom community, students will be able to participate in virtual student engagement opportunities, including a virtual conversation partner program with University of Waterloo student volunteers, online social activities to practice your conversational English with enthusiastic Peer Leaders, and regular workshops to help you develop your skills as a successful university student.

The program dates are May 1 to July 17, 2020.

What is the cost and how do I register?

For the Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 terms only, the non-refundable application fee required to register has been lowered to $75. The remainder of the application fee ($125) will be applied to your tuition and is due two weeks before the start of the program. No tuition deposit will be required to register for these terms.

Students who have studied in EFAS previously do not need to pay the application fee again. Returning students can email to indicate they want to return to studies for the spring term.
