Renison's Living Library

Monday, October 28, 2019

Date: Monday, November 18
Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm
Location: Renison University College Atrium

Students talkingRenison University College and the University of Waterloo are excited to celebrate International Education Week during the week of November 18-22.  To celebrate, Renison is excited to host our first Living Library on Monday, November 18 from 10:00am to 2:00pm in the Renison University College Atrium.

Speak one-on-one with a current student or recent graduate from our English Language Institute about life in their home country!

What is a Living Library?

Talking book iconRenison's Living Library is an exciting chance to speak with a "Living Book" - someone from a country around the globe - and ask questions about their lived experiences in their home country. It is a safe and respectful opportunity to challenge your own assumptions or stereotypes you may have about a culture, while gaining a stronger appreciation of the diversity within our campus community.

Once you register, you will have the opportunity to select from Living Books around the globe and speak with as many individuals you like. There is a time limit of 15 minutes per conversation in order to allow opportunities for multiple people to speak with our Living Book volunteers.

What is NOT a Living Library?

It is not a space to argue or debate international politics, values, or beliefs. Our goal is to nurture respect, understanding, and appreciation for each other's differences in a safe and supportive environment.

How do I participate?

If you want to participate and be a "Living Book Borrower", please complete our registration form

If you are an ELI student (or graduate from an ELI program) and would like to volunteer to be a "Living Library book" to represent a country or region around the globe, please apply on our online application form.
