Teaching Poetry to UndergraduatesExport this event to calendar

Friday, March 18, 2016 — 11:00 AM EDT

A panel discussion and conversation with Tristanne Connolly, Kevin McGuirk, David-Antoine Williams, and Chad Wriglesworth.

Photo still of Robin Williams standing on desk from Dead Poet's Society.Poetry can be intimidating for students, and they often come to university already resisting the genre. It can also be challenging to teach well, especially to early undergraduates.

In this informal panel, four experienced teachers will share approaches, techniques, and tips for teaching poetry to undergraduate students. After brief presentations, there will be time for questions and conversation.

While we can't guarantee that your students will be shouting "O Captain! My Captain!" when they see you in the hallway, you will walk away better prepared to help them appreciate and understand poetry.
