As English instructors teaching STEM students in communication courses, we often encounter differing expectations from our students around writing conventions, epistemologies, and approaches to grading. These cross-disciplinary issues can affect how STEM students learn in English language and literature classes, as well as how we teach. At this workshop, we'll share cross-disciplinary experiences, and you'll gain strategies for teaching communication that meet the specific needs of STEM students.

This workshop is for English graduate students and faculty who are teaching in courses that are entirely dedicated to STEM students or in multidisciplinary courses that include STEM students. It will also be of interest to graduate students who may be working with STEM writers in the future.

Facilitators: Ashley Rose Mehlenbacher (UWaterloo English) and Stephanie White (Centre for Teaching Excellence)
