Tips for using the projectors

For teaching assistants and professors connecting to the projectors in the Faculty of Environment computer labs. Each teaching lab has a slightly different setup for using a projector. Follow these tips or ask at the ETIS Help Desk in advance for some help.

Before your first lab

  1. Get the door lock combination from your instructor or ask for it at the ETIS Help Desk.
  2. Make sure that you can logon to one of the computers in the lab.
  3. If you can’t logon make sure that the ETIS Help Desk knows that you are a teaching assistant (TA) in a course that uses the lab.
  4. Familiarize yourself with the computers and the features of the room.

Galileo Lab (EV1 room 240)

  1. Logon to ENVGALILEO06. The remote control for the projector is attached to this desk.
  2. Use the power on button to turn on the projector – you should see the orange light go off and the green light go on as the projector turns on.

Geddes Lab (EV2 room 1002A)

  • Use the wall switch (located near the screen) labeled “Screen” to bring the screen down (roll the screen back up when you have finished using it).
  • Turn the projector on using the power button on the remote control that is chained to the wall at the back of the room.
  • You can either project from a laptop or from the computer (ENVGEDDES41) in the lab that is connected to the projector.
  • To change the screen resolution, press the "AUTOPOSITION" button on the remote.

Magellan Lab (EV2 room 1014)

  • There is no projector mounted in this room. You can connect a projector to a computer (e.g. ENVMAGELLAN12) and project on the screen at the front of the room.

At the end of each lab session:

  1. Make sure that you turn off the projector. On the projector remote, press off twice. The green light on the projector will blink while it is cooling down.
  2. Log off your computer! Don’t leave any digital or printed answer keys for your students!
  3. Make sure that you close the door when you leave. If you are the last one leaving the room, turn off the lights.
